Questions
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Reading, masking and restoring all happen in this browser tab. The only things that ever reach a server are a Pro license key and a random browser id, so the license can be checked. To see for yourself, open your browser’s network tab, mask a file, and watch nothing leave.
Is the masked file really anonymous?
It is pseudonymous. The same real value always gets the same stand-in, so counts, groupings and totals still work. But someone who knows your business well could still guess from things like job titles, rare amounts or dates. Mask those columns too, and use date shifting and amount scaling when the numbers themselves are sensitive.
What happens to formulas and formatting?
The masked file is a clean copy with values only. Formulas, colors, charts, comments and the author details hidden inside Excel files are dropped on purpose, so nothing real can hide in them.
I lost my key file. Can you recover it?
No. The key never leaves your browser, so there is nothing on our side to recover. Keep it somewhere safe, like a password manager. You can lock it with a passphrase, but then you need the passphrase too.
Can I use one key for several files?
Yes. Load your key when you mask the next file and anyone seen before gets the same stand-in. Good for monthly exports, where Amira should be Lena every time.
What can I restore?
Any CSV or Excel file that still contains the stand-ins, in cells, headers or sheet names. Pasted text works too, so you can drop an AI answer into the Restore text tab and get the real names back.
Which date formats work?
Excel dates, and text such as 2025-03-15, 15/03/2025 and 03/15/2025 with slashes, dashes or dots. Cells it cannot read are left alone, and you get a warning telling you how many.
How do I buy Pro and get my key?
Press “Get Pro”, then Buy. You pay on a secure checkout page run by Lemon Squeezy. Your license key arrives by email with your receipt, and it is also in your orders on Lemon Squeezy. Come back, press “Get Pro”, paste the key and press Activate. It takes a minute.
Can I get a refund?
No. All sales are final, which is why masking up to 500 rows and all restoring are free: try your own kind of file first. If Pro is broken and we cannot fix it, write to us. Details are in the Refund policy.
Can I use Pro on another computer?
Yes. One license works on up to 5 browsers. To move to a new one, open Pro on the old browser and choose “Remove license from this browser”, then paste your key on the new one. If you lost access to the old browser, email support@maskly.app and we will free the spot.
What is free and what is Pro?
Free masks files up to 500 rows, and restoring is always free. Pro removes the row limit and adds date shifting and amount scaling.
Will Pro include things you add later?
Pro covers the features listed here. New tools or services we may add later, such as an API, connections to AI assistants or team features, can be sold separately and may be a subscription. Pro stays a one-time payment for what it lists.
